I think Lawrence (cb_drift) told me to use a romulator to take the data "on the fly"...
just need to get around to ordering one!!
So many projects, so little time LOL |

that wont work tho either sorry...
they can change data - but need data in them to read first ...
but to use one - you'd have to remove the eprom anyway |

I had an idea for this earlier today. Why not go at it from the underside of the PC board? Hook wires up from the pins poking out the underside and run each wire in to the appropriate place on an eprom programmer's ZIF socket and do a read from there.
Any reason why this wouldn't work?

if u know what ur doin u can take the chip off. I didn't on a sr20det mines ecu, and a 1jz mines ecu.
do u have a wideband or egt gauge, cause the mines tune I saw before was way advanced in the midrange? |

I have none of them, and i don't really know the ecu specs either . Didn't even try to take the chip out, it doesn't seem an easy task and the last thing i want to do is damage the ecu. Also, i do have another tuned one (not mines though) which has a socket already, so i prefer playing with this one ( well i plan to, because i don't really have any of the equipment required yet ).
If you have further info on the mines tuning that you d like to share (dwell time settings etc) just let me know so that i know what i m running . _________________ JDM CA18DET |

it seems to me that since they advanced the timing so much they had to increased the dwell times so that they still have a strong spark.
we're talking 10 - 16deg more advanced compared to stock settings up until full boost. must have been some race gas tune in my opinion. |

Just a thought: Should the eprom be out of the ecu to be read? When you take the back cover off the mines ecu, you can see the eprom pins soldered on the board. Would the eprom be readable without taking it out, but connecting cables from the back of the board to the reader (for each pin)? Or being on the board means that is affected by other parts of the circuit (resistances, transistors etc) which makes it unreadable this way? _________________ JDM CA18DET |

I did just this with my Mines GTR ECU...
I put a couple of chip sockets stacked up into the ZIF socket in my programmer.
Then I pressed one against the Mines motherboard on the pin stubs sticking down.
And then connected the two, gently!
Then by trial and error altered the pressure until the programmer advised all pins were making contact, then saved the info to the buffer...
I have to say though, the file just came up as drivel! Either I got it wrong, or the Mines files may be coded- seen that a few times too... |

I've heard some tuner companies possibly swap a few of the wires going to the eprom socket. I wonder if you compared the Mine's circuit board with an oem if you could trace the connections and see if you can find where it is different. Anyhow...just an idea.
