Hi,

Has anyone else had trouble in their own programs(im using delphi) when downloading tables etc, work fine when motor is not running but will almost always stop downloading half way through a table when motor is running?.

does it only happen on your own car or also on others ?

if so, it may be caused by a bad ground of the ECU or some other electronic component.

Are you using a USB/VCP port ?
Some USB-serial chipsets/cables seem to be sensitive to the (static) noise created by a running engine, causing bad/lost connections etc.
Again, also here better/extra grounding of important elec. components may help

I have used several programming languages (also Delphi), but never really had any communication problems using a native serial/RS232 port, unless there was someting wrong with the ECU or in a very rare case with the alternator (output of over 17V, causing the ECU to almost fry when the engine was running)

and ofcourse, make sure you use this Delphi comport library/vcl: http://sourceforge.net/projects/comport/

it's the best Cport VCL for Delhi (IMO)

See this issue all the time unfortunately

First thing to blame is the vehicle. Some vehicles have bad grounding like Eric mentioned. Clean all ground points esp battery to chasis, battery to engine and EFI ground wires to top of plenum (in most vehicles)

FYI Transplanted engines seem to have the highest problem rate with communications because of bad or missing earths

Secondly any aftermarket coil system etc is likely to cause bigger recoil on release of charge and feed back into your ECU and then down the consult lines

Thirdly is the consult cable used. I work with Pete from PLMS and we do many dyno runs and test the cables accordingly. Constant revisions in the cables were made to deal with noise issues - which were especially evident in USB versions

I have used various other cables (as have customers who have then swapped their cable over for a better one) and can confirm that those cables do not like noise.

Nistune sends out the data bytes and then checks the response back on receipt. We experience in noisy conditions corrupted data bytes back which is bad (especially for map changes) so then need to repeat. Some cars are so bad that after continuous retries we have to disconnect

In your case doing a consult download, you are looking for a header character, length and then data. If either of the first two are corrupted then all bets are off and your download will terminate without recovery code. Language etc doesnt matter in most cases. Look at the data you are getting back and check it against what you should get back

Some software like earlier NissanDataScan etc didnt check this data. You will see needles flicker etc (esp on higher RPMs) when bad data is not determined and passed through to the user display
