Hello, I have some idle problems with my CA.

I have perfect cruising A/F (15), full boost is OK (11.5 - 12)

But on idle it is far too rich (12.5 - 12).

I tried lots of things!

When I lean bottom end of fuel map I get poor mixture at idle for a few seconds (17 - 18 when very leaned at bottom end) but it always goes back to rich alone (13 - 12.5).

I also tried to reduce Injector latency, I went from 4C to 3F with very poor result.

If someone experienced similar behaviour and could help me it would be great!

Thanks!

Are you sure you are using non lambda base rom file on a non-lambda ECU ?
I used to have the same problem on my CA18DET S13, I have two ECU with different parts number, even using the same rom, the Idle mixture is different.

Thanks for your answer.

I'm using MECD009 base soft with MECD009 base ECU.

If it can help,

When I am cruising (From 1200 to 2800RPM) at light gas pedal, I have between 15,2 and 14,7 A/F and in the fuel map it corresponds to an approximatively 188dec area

At full load (1 or 1,2 bar depending on boost controller settings) I get between 11,5 - 12 A/F with between 80 - 90 dec in fuel MAP.

My K is 163hex.

I am dreaming of a beautiful 14,7 @ idle, you can't imagine! Laughing

80-90, are you sure ? Shocked

Have you try to put around 160 in the lowest square of the fuel-map ?
Already seen similar problem on big AFM (RB20/25DET and VG32DETT), surely due to too much big body for the CA18 Confused

Non lambda ECUs use a 4th wire on the MAF. This wire is used to adjust fuel at idle. I measured the resistance between this cable and GND and Voltage on the original CA18 MAF while moving the idle adjust screw. This are the results:
Code:

Idle screw position | Resistance with GND | Resistance with Positive V
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Full CCW            | 0 ohm               | 2 kohm
Full CW             | 1 kohm              | 1 kohm
Standard Position   | 500 ohm             | 1.5 kohm

What I did was to install that 4th cable connected to the middle leg of a 1 kohm potentiometer, one leg to GND and the other to a 1 kohm resistor and then to battery positive. I try to adjust the K value riding on light load with a fuel map with no corrections, and then get proper idle adjusting this screw.

Yes, 80 - 90 dec.

60 - 70 is too poor: 14 A/F at full load Confused

Yes, I tried 160 in the lowest square: at idle, A/F drops to 18 - 19, car hesitates, then it goes back ALONE at 13 - 12,5 A/F. !!!!

So Great!
I will try this and tell you the results! (lots of other things to do at this moment so maybe for next month)

To much things are going wrong : I'm not sure your MAF is OK Confused

Edit : what about the wiring of your MAF ?
Especialy for C and D brushes ?

C and D are wired together to C, black wire of RS13 loom
B is wired to D, green and black wire of RS13 loom
E is wired to B, black and white wire of RS13 loom

I will also try with a MECD007 base, lambda application, to see if there is any difference, though there is not correction coming from the A wire with this one.

On cold start, your idle won't be correct with a cat prog.
On warm start it's OK.

If I were you, I'd try with 534cc and S13MAF to try to correctly set injectors parameters.
And after only, I'd re-inject the Z32MAF in the story Wink

That's what I did before but with s14 MAF.

But I hadn't any lambda probe, so, Idle A/F was maybe already wrong, I don't know.

Sure : I haven't seen this problem with big MAF before I had my wideband Confused

I didn't see there was any problem before I installed a wideband.
Idle is perfectly strong but 12,5 A/F. Confused
