what is the best emulator for tuning the z32 ecu
zemulator look's ok, but from what i can read it's not possible to store the bin file to the eprom after end tuning.
is there a way to convert the zem file to a binfile??
the romulator seems to be harder to set up, but with this emulator it look's like the tuned bilfile is just to load in the eprom after the tuning session is finish.
is there anybody who knows ???

You can get the ROM dumped from the ZEM. You have to hook up a conzult cable.
I have been reading alot lately and I think the NisTune is a much much cleaner setup. THe zem is forced to use a ROMULATOR and a LABJACK.
The nistune is a nice NVSRAM chip setup that allows the complete tuning and adjustment from the ConZult port. I really really like this idea. Xtensive(www.zcontrol.net) was tossing this idea around about 3 years ago. I guess he never got very far with it. Apparently someone was thinking the same idea also and actually had the time to complete it.
So with the nistune setup and a ConZult cable. You do not need a romulator or labjack to get the programability or the realtime data.
So you figure your out $200 for the nistune daughter board. $200 for the software and about $100 for the Consult connection. For $100 less than Zem you have what amounts to the exact same thing except its completely enclosed in the ECU. |

The Zemulator is really just a Pocket Romulator and labjack plus some simple tuning software.
Romulators work okay, but have some problems like lack of hardware maptracing support, running from only serial cable (and requiring power from one of the pins to perform updates without ecu power not always guaranteed via USB-Serial converters). Main problem :- multiple updates can affect ECU operation, even causing it to go limp mode. It is not 'writing behind' whilst ECU is accessing as should be expected.
Zemulator software does the basics but is getting quite dated and is limited to just the Z32 vehicle. Live Edit software is better IMHO for editing/tuning only. The maptracing comes from raw MAF input being plugged into the labjack AD converter and then calculated to obtain an estimated TP. Start chaging your K constant and this will probably throw the tracing out. Then you cant keep your tune anyway (unless you dump it from the emulator using other software)
Moates Ostrich emulators are much nicer unit and also support hardware maptrace with the 2.0 version. However we have found that nothing beats consult maptracing when streaming TP from the ECU
NIStune supports the romulator, Moates Ostrich as well as our NVRAM boards (which are designed to permanently be installed as opposed to an emulator which is normally removed after tuning and then replaced by an EPROM chip).
We do tracing using TP from consult. You can also log your consult and wideband inputs to a file and playback to the screen, guages and maptracing |

well then the nistune looks like the best setup
one of the things i am loocking for, is a system that can be removed after end tuning, and that is easy to use, can the bin be loadet in to the chip after end tuning ? i have a eprom burner and a innovate lm1 wbo2 controller.
there is several setup (cards) for the nistune is there anybody that knows what is needed to get the systam i am loocking for. and the best place to buy from.
Regards

btw I wrote the NIStune software and am working with PLMS developments with boards design and manufacture
Type 2 boards are designed permanently installed in the ECU, like you would with an EPROM chip. However if you wish to burn EPROMs, then get the moates emulator from www.moates.net and then the NIStune software from www.nistune.com
This is compatible with your Innovate wideband and will display, log and AFR trace the output from your unit in combination with the consult data using your consult cable such as the PLMS ones.
You can also save your ROM files to disk for burning to EPROM chips later. Uses the same format ADR files as with ROM editor |

FYI: in a ZEM equipped car you can pull a bin file. just download the pkt_rom program from xtronics site, and connect that program to the romulator and download the bin. no problem at all. no need for additional hardware at all.
i do however not recommend the zem to anyone because of some flaws i found. go Nistune or something else.

Heia Otto,
I would highly recommend Nistune. I have been using it throughout development for the last couple of years, and have to say that there is nothing else i know of that is as complete and easy to use.
Matt (darkhalf) is always helpful and quick to respond if you have any problems.
Forget about eprom chips, the Nistune board stays in the ecu permanently and does not have any of the glitches assosiated with using an emulator on a daily basis.
No need to keep an emergency chip in the glove box in case the romulator memory crashes....LOL
Tuning is done via the consult cable, so no need to remove the floorboard to access the ecu.
Just plug in and tune away.
files are standard .Bin format, so if you want to burn a chip thats no problem.
The software just keeps getting better and better with new features being added all the time.
Matt, keep up the good work!!
