hello all
i have a question for you all.
what exactly does an external wastegate do as im replacing my turbo and i was thinking while its out i might aswell go the whole hog ie manifold, wastegate and i was wondering about any good or bad points with them

Hi Jamesa,
the best thing about an external wastgate is that it does not interfair with the flow from the turbine exhuast, this can make as much a 20RWKW difference in the midrange revs.
They also sound cool when they open more deeper(normally because you have 44mm or so diam).
You can use the greg dumpee devorced wastgate downpipes or simular, theese use stock turbo's but run different pipes off the back of the turbo, one from waste gate hole, and one from the turbine hole, stopping them mixing together at the curtial part at the exit of turbine, keeping good flow when wastgate opens ,same effect as external wastgate.

| ussually you only switch to external wastegates when you get new turbos that dont have internal wastegates, getting divorced downpipes that separate the wastegate from the exhaust wheel help in not allowing turbulance and promote smooth exhaust flow out of the turbo. external wastegates dont really improve performance persay, its just another way of doing things. |
