Hey guys, Ive noticed a few aussie on the board so Im asking where everyone gets their eproms from.

I cant seem to find anywhere with 29c256 eproms, and only a few places with 27c128s at 120ns and 27c256s at 100ns

cheers

The ATMEL agents in Australia are MEMEC electronics.

They are in Melb Adelaide and Sydney. If you wanted to buy a tube or two they could help you.

Finding any Eproms faster than 100ns is quite hard.

I have found 100ns actually work quite OK

ST micro 27c's from Arrow electronics are findable but only in 100 ns

so whats the deal with the speed of the chip? is 100ns too slow for car ecu's? I heard somewhere that 55ns is best. What is the standard speed?

Don't take care about speed : access time of up to 200ns is working well, at least in CA18DET's ECU.
I'm using this kind of EPROM every day for my own tests and never had a problem with them Wink

I play with 27128, 27c128, 27256, 27c256 and 27c512 alternatively, regardless of brand and model Wink

all z32 ecu's i have seen has an 120 ns chip

there is no benefit at all in using a faster eprom, but it need to deliver the data it holds in time, if not the ecu will crach.

everything from 45 to 120 ns is safe, all within this do the job in time.
some clame to have used 200ns eproms without any problems,
im not sure about this but maby a 200ns works ok

We're talking about CA18DET here, but anyway, the microcontroler is the same if I remember well ?

for 4MHz computer ... about 500ns is the cycle i think so <250ns for half cycle

check the crystal / datasheet for cpu/mcu specific to ecu types
